There is a strong café culture in Croydon with a host of new cafes and brunch clubs popping up all over the place.

This week Vibe reporter Andy Bloss had a closer look at Purley Breakfast Club. We spoke to club member Jonny Rose on what it is all about.

Andy Bloss: What is Purley Breakfast Club?

Jonny Rose: "Purley Breakfast Club is a monthly social gathering of people from across Croydon at Cafe Nino, Purley on the last Saturday of every month, 9AM-12pm."

AB: How long has it been going for?

JR: "Purley Breakfast Club started in Spring 2011. Initially it was a tweet-up - a way for the local twitter community to meet one another in person, but soon after they started bringing friends and family along and now it's opened up to anyone local who wants to come along. You don't have to be a techie."

AB: What goes on at Purley Breakfast Club?

JR: "Quite simply it's an opportunity for people who've never met before to meet friendly locals and have breakfast together.

There is no agenda, you can turn up whenever you like and eat however much or little you like. Children are welcome, there is usually a children's activity table set up by one of the parents."

AB: Do you get a good crowd?

JR: "We usually have about 30 people turn up each session - sometimes we've had 60, sometimes we've had only 10. It tends to fluctuate a lot, but there are always regulars."
