The Labour Party has selected its candidate to run against what it has branded 'the Coalition Pauls'.
Emily Brothers, who is blind, will stand for Labour in Sutton and Cheam taking on incumbent Liberal Democrat MP Paul Burstow and Conservative hopeful Paul Scully.
The mother-of-two is head of policy at the Equality and Human Rights Commission responsible for health and local government and is also on the board of a charity called the Community Network that seeks to combat loneliness through telephone communities. She has lived in the borough since 1990 and stood in the council election in Sutton North in 2010.
She said: "I’m delighted to have the opportunity to advance Labour’s campaign for fairness, improved living standards and public services."
"I’m offering a progressive alternative to the double act of Paul Burstow and Paul Scully – same name, same policies. One Paul will raise your bills here, another Paul will raise your bills there – the negative impact will be the same. Voting Emily, voting Labour – provides a new start for Sutton and Cheam."
"I intend developing a conversation with local people and groups about Labour’s priorities for Government. I look forward to meeting local people."
