Four fire crews were called to a blaze at a Raynes Park scrap yard this morning.
The fire took hold among scrap cars and metal in West Barnes Lane at about 4am and was well alight by the time crews arrived.
About two dozen firefighters, from New Malden, Surbiton, Kingston and Sutton, were drafted in.
They brought the flames under control in about two hours.
New Malden blue watch manager Steve Preston said: “They worked very hard and very well to stop it spreading and getting other hazards involved.”
The road was closed between Burlington Road and Bodnant Gardens as the fire raged.
