The search to find the borough’s best gardeners and gardens for the annual Sutton in Bloom competition has begun.

Green-fingered enthusiasts will be able to be able to trumpet their yards and plots in a wide-range of categories this summer.

Horticulturists can be nominated for the best front garden, community garden, business frontage, allotment garden and school garden awards.

Each year hundreds of residents submit photos of their gardens in a bid to be named among the borough’s finest gardeners.

Headteacher Heidi Westley, who won the best school garden category for Muschamp Primary, said: “We were all so pleased to win again last year, the children put so much energy and time into keeping their school looking beautiful.

“They all appreciate nature and want to make a difference to the environment. Visitors are always surprised that so many flowers can co-exist with over 500 children.”

Judging for the awards will take place between Friday, June 23 and Monday, June 26.

Winners will be invited to an awards ceremony in July and will represent Sutton in the London in Bloom competition, later this year.
