A burger restaurant inspired by the director’s beloved grandmother has been shortlisted by Deliveroo for its 2024 restaurant awards.
Nanny Bill’s, based in Croydon and London Bridge, is a finalist in the best burger or American restaurant category.
Deliveroo has split the restaurants up into categories: Best Chinese, best pizza, best sushi, best poke, best Indian & Nepalese, best burger & American, best Thai, best chicken, best Japanese and best breakfast and coffee.
Voting closes on Sunday, January 21 so Deliveroo urges people to cast their votes for their favourite eateries asap.
The winners will be revealed on February 15.
Darren Simpson, director of Nanny Bill’s, has said it is “amazing” and a “huge honour” to make the shortlist.
He said: “The whole Nanny Bill's team works extremely hard to ensure our customers are receiving the very best service and the highest quality products, so to be nominated is testament to all that hard work.
“We're confident that the service we deliver at our bricks and mortar stores is 10/10.
“However, we also ensure that every burger, portion of croquettes or our incredible loaded fries that is sent out from our kitchen is cooked to perfection and packaged with love.
“When it comes to our deliveries, we also have 100% faith in our delivery partner, Deliveroo, and their drivers to get our food to the customer speedily and as fresh as if they ordered it in store, so it’s a real partnership between Nanny Bill's and Deliveroo.”
According to Darren, Nanny Bill – his grandmother - was a true Londoner who had her very own café in the 70s and 80s.
He described her as a “proper character who everyone loved” and was of course, an amazing cook.
She passed on her love of food to Darren which inspired him to launch Nanny Bill’s in 2015 in her honour.
Darren added: “At the very heart of what we do is hospitality, so just as Nan did we show love through our food and our service: we want every customer to feel looked after from the moment they take the time to order a delivery to the moment they wipe they mouth after their final delicious mouthful.
“Nanny Bills is a true family business, with my sister Jade heading up Operations and various cousins and other family members taking active roles in the day-to-day running of the business.
“We know Nan would be proud to be nominated.”
Leaders at Nanny Bill’s say that “quality of key” and therefore claim to only use grass-fed, free-range beef and buns from a local baker so that they are unique to the spot.
They also focus on classic, British brands that make people nostalgic for their childhoods such as McCains fries and Heinz sauces.
