Two sculptures were unveiled by the mayor of Merton on Friday, marking completion of the housing developed on the former Plough Lane home of Wimbledon Football Club.
A bronze plinth stands in honour of the Dons and the club’s former stadium while a solid oak waterwheel marks the historical significance to the area of the River Wandle.
Lynnette St-Quintin, sales director for Barratt Southern Counties, said: “The history of this site as a football club is so important to those locally and we were keen to make sure that we paid tribute to this. The two designs are highly appropriate for the local area and our thanks goes to everyone involved with the project.”
