The Surrey Search and Rescue Team are getting a new mobile command centre, thanks to the Big Lottery Fund.
An £8,657 grant will be used to buy waterproof clothing, GPS equipment and a specially-fitted trailer with mapping and radio technology.
The Search and Rescue team, comprised of 32 volunteers, assist Surrey Police and emergency services in looking for lost or missing people.
They have had eight cases this year, including the search for missing Sian O'Callaghan from Swindon.
Chairman Tim Rowell said "This money will dramatically increase our capability to find missing people. The kit will keep our team warm and dry when out searching as it's often cold and wet when we get called out."
He added: “We do this because we enjoy it and of course, at the end of the day, when you do help find someone, there is a real feel-good factor.”
The team spends an estimated £500 per member on heavy-duty clothing, radios and other essential equipment.
They are sponsored by several local companies, charities and Surrey councillors but are looking for other sponsors to supply relevant services, clothing and other necessary items.
