A bricklayer has admitted raping a 14-year-old girl in a busy park on Easter Sunday.
One witness heard the girl screaming ‘help me please’, as she was attacked by tattooed Epsom man Andrew Percival, 39, in Alexandra Park, Tolworth, at 7pm, on April 4.
He pleaded guilty at Kingston Crown Court on Thursday, July 22.
At an earlier hearing at Kingston Magistrates’ Court on April 27, prosecutor Jon Shepherd said the “extremely serious” rape took place in full view of other members of the public.
He said: “At least one of the witnesses said in their statement they saw them having sex.
“The victim and defendant both joined each other in the park and he persuaded or induced her to go and steal two bottles of wine from a shop.
“He made her drink some of the wine and made her drink vodka and mixed them together in one of the empty bottles.”
Mr Shepherd said: “Another witness said he was in his bedroom facing out over the park and heard a woman outside saying ‘Help me. Please help me’ and sounding distressed.
“Mr Percival was interviewed and he answered no comment to all questions put to him.
“He didn’t advance that this was with consent although that’s of limited relevance, due to the age of the victim.”
Police closed off part of Alexandra Park in King Charles Avenue on Easter Monday, as forensic officers searched the recreation ground.
At the time of the rape Percival was subject to a 12-month conditional discharge for shoplifting nine boxes of chocolates from Martins newsagent in Victoria Road, Surbiton, on September 21 last year.
According to court papers for that case he used to live in King Charles Avenue, the road next to Alexandra Park.
Percival, of Gatley Avenue in Epsom, will be sentenced on August 12 at Kingston Crown Court.
