Residents have given their strongest indication yet of what they want to happen to the town centre.
According to a YouGov poll residents want a network of shopping streets with strong links to the rest of the town, and big improvements to North End.
The poll was carried out on behalf of shopping centre developer Hammerson. This Thursday Hammerson will present its updated plans for the Whitgift Quarter to Croydon Council’s Strategic Planning Committee.
David Atkins, chief executive of Hammerson, said: “The people of Croydon have made clear that what they want from the redevelopment of their town centre is a scheme which integrates with the rest of the town centre and plays a vital part in the regeneration of the whole of Croydon.”
Subject to planning, work could start in the first quarter of 2014 with completion as early as 2017.
