A second man has been arrested by police investigating the death of a Morden man hit by a car on the A24 in Ewell.
William Charles Buckingham, 21, was walking home with friends when he was hit by the car on the A24 London Road about 1.15am yesterday.
Mr Buckingham was rushed to St George’s Hospital but died at 6.30pm.
A postmortem investigation at the Royal Surrey County Hospital gave the cause of his death as head injuries.
Surrey Police officers arrested a man late last night in connection with the incident in which they say the car failed to stop.
He was interviewed at about noon today and remains in custody assisting police with their enquiries.
A second Epsom man, aged 23, was arrested soon after noon today and is also in custody being interviewed by police.
A Surrey Police spokeswoman said: “Mr Buckingham was walking home with some friends when the collision occurred; and officers would like to talk to anyone who saw or heard anything in the London Road, Ewell in the early hours of this morning or who has any information about this incident.”
The road between Sparrow Farm Road and Briarwood Road was closed in both directions all morning but was open again at 1.30pm.
Anyone with information should phone Surrey Police on 0845 125 2222 or ring Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
