An ambitious mother running for London Mayor is backing a controversial third Heathrow runway.
Siobhan Benita, from New Malden, has called on the government to give the go ahead to the runway, which she said is crucial to West London jobs and prosperity.
She said: "A third runway will bring thousands of new jobs to West London, which has seen a slowdown in job creation because of the focus on east London and the London Olympic facilities.
"We don’t want London lagging behind the rest of Europe."
The Independent candidate’s call contrasts with proposals from other candidates, including a new airport in the Thames Estuary.
It also contrasts with Richmond and North Kingston MP Zac Goldsmith who has campaign against a third runway for many years.
The 40-year-old’s position is in line with calls by Willie Walsh of British Airways, Virgin Atlantic and airport operator BAA for a third runway at Heathrow.
She said: "The environmental concerns remain and, as Mayor of London, I would work with BAA on ensuring the runway is situated in the best position to cause the least noise and pollution to surrounding communities.
