Shop workers and pedestrians have told of their shock after a man was decapitated by a lorry in Tooting this morning.
It is understood the man had been crossing the street in Upper Tooting Road, just outside estate agents Your Move, when he was struck by the large vehicle.
The incident happened at around 11am near the junction of Dafforne Road and the Upper Tooting Road.
According to witnesses, the man went under the wheels of the lorry.
It was witnessed by dozens of people working in the shops located between Tooting Bec station and Dafforne Road.
One shop worker said: "The man's body, minus his head, is under a sheet which is still under the lorry. It was a shocking thing to witness and many members of staff saw the whole thing."
Another man, who also did not want to be named, said: "It was probably the most the most awful thing I've ever seen. The poor guy was probably killed instantly at least. I've had to go and have a drink to calm my nerves."
However, full details of the accident have yet to emerge.
Police have blocked off the road in both directions and traffic is being diverted around the scene.
Pedestrians have also been told to walk around the block so forensic experts can gather evidence.
A spokesman for the London Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 11am to reports of road traffic collision between a lorry and a man on Upper Tooting Road.
"Unfortunately the man had died."
