Merton council is holding a series of events to celebrate Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) History month this February.
This year’s line-up includes two film screenings. The first is Gypo, a compelling drama about a young Roma refugee on February 8. The other is Mambo Italiano, a charming comedy dealing with the problems of coming out in the Italian immigrant community on February 22. Both films will be followed by opportunities to meet and socialise with Merton LGBT forum members.
There will be a party on February 25 at the William Morris pub Merton Abbey Mills with Karaoke and special guest Claire Benjamin will bring the events of the month to a close.
Councillor Edith Macauley, cabinet member for equalities, said: “Merton is a borough which is proud of its diversity. It is important to recognise and celebrate events such as LGBT month that remind us all about equality and tolerance within society.”
