A 70-year-old man died this morning after being crushed under a truck.
The horrific incident happened in Mitcham Road, Tooting, close to Tooting Broadway station at 9.30am and was witnessed by scores of people.
An ambulance raced to the scene and he was extracted from beneath the vehicle but he went into cardiac arrest and medic were unable to resuscitate him.
A spokesperson for the London Ambulance Service said: "Extensive efforts were made to resuscitate the patient, but sadly he died at the scene."
An onlooker, who did not want to be named, said: "It’s really horrific. I didn’t see the accident but there are a few people here who did and they are really upset.
"I mean this poor guy is still under the truck but I’ve just heard he had died in the last few minutes.
"There are quite a lot of people outside Gregg’s, just up form Primark, now. But everyone is being very respectful."
A Greggs worker said they could see the scene from the shop window.
She said: "A road traffic accident is on going at the moment, half of Mitcham Lane has been shut off."

Traffic is currently affected in the area, with Mitcham Road closed on both ways from Tooting High Street.
