A drunken thief learned two rights do make a wrong after he was sentenced to a day behind bars for stealing two trainers for the same foot.
Sutton man Enrico Kwasenko, 52, drank six cans of Stella Artois lager before he walked into JD Sports in Sutton High Street and stole two right-footed, size 11 Sergio Tacchini trainers worth £20 on Thursday, October 25.
Staff member Calum Battershill, 23, sprang into action when he realised the man had taken the trainers from the sale rack and left the shop.
Mr Battershill, from Morden, said: "I was up in the stock room and my mate said someone had taken something so I ran downstairs to catch him.
"He left the shop but I chased after him and caught him near Asda. I just held him until police got there.
"I don't think he'd realised he'd taken two trainers for the same foot - he was pretty drunk."
Kwasenko, of Willow Walk, was arrested and spent a day in the cells before he appeared at Camberwell Green Magistrates' Court on Friday, October 26.
He was sentenced to a day in prison and told the time he spent behind bars prior to the hearing could count as his detention.
