Darius Charles says he knew his future lay with AFC Wimbledon after playing his part in last season’s play-off heroics.
The defender joined Dons on loan from Burton Albion in March, but his stay was made permanent in the summer.
He and Paul Robinson have forged a solid partnership in the centre of defence, although it was given a stiff test in last night’s 3-2 pre-season defeat to Premier League Crystal Palace.
Lyle Taylor bagged his third goal in four games, and a Pape Souare own goal kept Palace on their toes.
As for Charles, he was named man of the match and he believes the build up to the new League One season is on track.
He said: “First and foremost, when I came here, personally speaking, it was to get games and then, on a team level, the goal was to reach the play-offs and see where we go from there.
“Thankfully we did and that coincided with me coming here permanently.”

He added: “How could I possibly go anywhere else? After not only the success we had, but we were successful for a reason.
“We had a great team spirit, great management, great staff and I’m at great club with great fans.
“With all those things, plus being a relatively local boy, made it an easy decision for me”
Much has been said about the cramped pre-season, with the side facing a week less preparation time than their rivals due to their involvement in the play-offs, but Charles feels the side is unaffected.
“I think everything is coming together nicely, yes we had a shorter break and therefore a shorter pre-season,” he said.
“We could use it as an excuse if we’d like to, but we’re not the type of side that uses excuses and don’t need them.
“No matter what, we’ll be ready to go on August 6. “ Dons pre-season continues at Woking on Friday night, and then Dagenham & Redbridge on Saturday before the season kicks off proper at Walsall.
