John Fisher School won the National Schools Rugby Festival at St Joseph’s College last weekend, receiving the De La Salle Cup from England star David Strettle.
John Fisher, appearing in the competition for the first time, ran out 15-8 winners over Bedford School in the final.
They also beat Tonbridge, RGS Wycombe, King’s School Ely and the hosts on their way to lifting the trophy, although they also suffered two defeats over the two-day event.
Strettle said: “It is a pleasure to support this tournament and see the level of rugby being played at schoolboy level.”
Dulwich College beat Bromsgrove 20-8 in the plate final.
Bedford scurm-half Chris Smart was named player of the tournament.
John Fisher results: Saturday: beat Kings School Ely 35-0, lost 14-12 to Brighton College, beat St Joseph’s 29-7. Sunday: beat Tonbridge 14-0, beat RGS Wycombe 12-8, lost 10-7 v Millfield. Overall final: beat Bedford School 15-8.
Dulwich College results: Saturday: lost 25-0 v Millfield, lost 17-12 v Bedford, beat Campion 8-3. Sunday results: beat Rob Clark 27-3, beat St Peters 21-16, beat St Joseph’s 12-10. Plate final: beat Bromsgrove 20-8.
