I tried the new Mad Hatters Afternoon Tea in Kensington that’s so popular it's been extended for longer.

To mark its recent floral installation for Chelsea in Bloom 2024, The Capital Hotel in Knightsbridge has created an Alice in Wonderland themed afternoon tea featuring sweet treats inspired by the childhood classic novel.

Afternoon tea is served in the restaurant with modern interiors.

The afternoon tea has been extended to run for longer because of how popular it has been with diners and after trying it for myself it’s easy to see why.

The afternoon tea came presented on a themed Alice in Wonderland stand, with sweet treats made to resemble the whimsical elements of the book.

The savouries were a mix of classic afternoon tea options, with fillings like lemon and dill cucumber, egg mayonnaise and mustard cress, roast beef and horseradish mayonnaise, and Chicken coronation vol au vents.

We were also served scones that came out fresh and warm from the oven with jam and cream.

We also tried some of their themed cocktails which included the Mad Cat, a deep purple-coloured drink made with elderflower and champagne, and the Mad Hatter made with gin and peach puree, and both were very good.

The sweet treats served were all very cute and on theme, including a delicious lemon and poppy seed cake made to look like a playing card, and a raspberry and chocolate tarte topped with a toadstool.

There was even a little “Eat Me” chocolate cake and a macaron in purple and white stripes, which was a nod to the Cheshire Cat, with even more macarons in a teacup to finish with.

With its whimsical theme and tasty treats, this afternoon tea is one I’d recommend for the literary lovers on a visit to Central London.

Mad Hatters Afternoon Tea is currently available at The Capital for £59 a person.
