Four popular ice skating rinks are set to return to south London for Christmas 2024 – here’s everything you need to know.
Christmas is fast approaching and with it the return of this popular winter activity to mark the countdown to the festive season.
Whilst some ice rinks like Greenwich’s popular ice rink in front of Queen’s House will not be returning this year, several of south London’s ice rinks are returning for 2024.
Whether you want to skate by the river in Battersea or stop off for an ice skating session after a day of Christmas shopping, this list has something for everyone.
Here are all the ice rinks returning to south London for Christmas 2024:
Ruxley Manor
Where? Ruxley Manor Garden Centre, Maidstone Road. Sidcup, Kent, DA14 5BQ
When? November 10 to January 7, sessions available from 9am-7pm.
How much? From £2.50 to £15 per person, for ages 3+, for a 45-minute session. Carers go free.
Returning for 2024, Ruxley Manor Garden Centre's outdoor covered ice rink is always a popular event in south east London.
This year, Ruxley Manor has announced that it will be offering 3,000 standard skating slots for just £2.50 a person on certain days – perfect If you’re looking for a budget-friendly option.
The rink will also host Little Penguin Skating Sessions for small children and a joining adult, as well as SEN Sessions where guests can skate with reduced light and sound levels.
The rink takes place within the grounds of Ruxley Manor, making it the perfect day out if you fancy some Christmas shopping.
Bluewater
Where? Bluewater Shopping Centre, Greenhithe, Kent, DA9 9ST
When? November 12 to January 5, sessions available from 12pm-8pm.
How much? Adults and teens from £15, children from £13, families from £46, group discount of 10% (for 10 or more tickets)
Returning for another year, Bluewater’s popular ice rink will launch next month in collaboration with the upcoming Sonic The Hedgehog film this December.
The ice rink, which will open every day except Christmas Day, will offer a range of skating events for all ages, from quiet hour sessions and parent and toddler sessions to the return of its popular party nights, where party tunes will be played to listen to while you skate.
Boots presents Glide at Battersea Power Station
Where? Battersea Power Station, Circus Rd W, Nine Elms, SW8 5BN
When? November 8 to January 5, sessions available from 10am-10pm.
How much? Adults from £16, Children (12 and over) from £10.50, adult and toddler from £13 students from £14.50, groups from £15, families from £48, private igloos from £17.50.
Set against the stunning backdrop of Battersea Power Station next to the River Thames, Glide at Battersea makes for the perfect skating spot if you’re looking for a picture for the grid.
During a session at Glide you’ll skate around three interconnecting rinks surrounded by twinkling lights and a 30ft Christmas tree.
Afterwards you can finish off a with a spot of Christmas shopping or some food at one of the many restaurants within the recently refurbished Battersea Power Station itself.
Hampton Court Palace Ice Rink
Where? Hampton Court Palace, Surrey, KT8 9AU
When? November 22 to January 5, sessions available from 10am-8pm.
How much? Adults from £18, children from £13, families from £46, wheelchair users £12
Another popular Instagram-worthy skating spot is none other than the historic setting of Hampton Court Palace in Surrey.
Here you can skate across an ice rink with the backdrop of this historic palace dating back to the 16th century.
The rink will be open every day except on Christmas Day, with skating sessions lasting 45 minutes per slot, and 25p of every ticket being donated to environmental projects.
