Just a few days into the summer holidays you are probably already wondering how on earth you are going to keep the kids busy for the next six weeks, well here's a suggestion for five days at least.
Edustage's Children's Musical Theatre Summer School offers youngsters between the ages of 8 and 12 the chance to shine on stage, teaching them a variety of theatre skills before they showcase their talents in a big musical production at the end of the week.
"We teach the children about the skills involved in musical theatre like singing, dancing and acting," said director Jeffrey Whitton.
"It's not just for children who are especially talented, it's for any youngster that wants to do a fun activity.
"At the end of the week the children will perform a musical on stage at Ashcroft Theatre called The Music Box that will be fully costumed with sound and lighting.
"It's a show I have written especially for the Summer School .
"When we meet the kids on the Monday we find out what their talent is and aim to incorporate this talent in the show.
"For example, if someone has a good singing voice then we will find them a singing part.
"The show will be adapted to fit the children.
"Family and friends can come along and watch it as can anybody as it is useful if people are thinking of coming another time."
The summer school has been running in venues around the country for more than 10 years but this is the first time it has come to Croydon.
"I am hoping this will be the start of a long partnership with Fairfield Halls," said Jeffrey.
"Our summer school in Nottingham has been completely sold out for the last three years."
Children's Musical Theatre Summer School, Fairfield Halls, Park Lane, August 3 to 7, 10am to 4pm, £135 for the whole week. Call 020 8688 9291 or visit fairfield.co.uk.
