Two hundred performing arts pupils are set for a musical extravaganza as they explore the development not just of a person through their life but theatre through the years.
Glenlyn Academy, based in Sydenham, will perform its end-of-year summer concert in the Fairfield Halls for the first time, showcasing performers aged from just three through to 18 hailing from across south London.
Ben Briscoe, the vice-principal and creative director, said: “We want to give our performers the chance to be involved a full professional production. We have a five-piece band, professional sets and lighting teams, to give our children a real taste of what it is like.”
The show Momento is split into two acts. The first uses the diverse age range available at the academy to look at the important moments in people’s lives as they progress through childhood into becoming an adult.
In the second act the pupils turn their attention to the history of musical theatre, including works from classics such as Les Miserables and 42nd Street.
Momento; Fairfield Halls, Croydon; Friday, July 20, 7.30pm and Saturday, July 21, at 2.30pm and 7.30pm; tickets cost £15 or £13.50, call 020 8688 9291.
