Uber-talented Carshalton wordsmith Earl Okin will be one of the three headline acts when the much-loved, ever-daring Comedy Tree takes root once more at the Watershed on Saturday night.

Joining fellow comics Holly Walsh and Dan Evans, Okin’s act will be under the watchful gaze of MC Tom Deacon.

But despite aiming squarely for laughs, Okin will traverse a vastly different route to his comedy cohorts as the 62-year-old will look to tickle the funny bone through the majesty of song.

Singer-songwriter, musician, comedian and raconteur, Okin has taken to the stage on countless times during his 40-year plus career, but has resisted the urge to indulge in stand-up.

And for good reason, as Okin’s folky noodlings are guaranteed to raise more than a titter in their own right.

The Surrey star first operated solely in the world of music, working alongside such heavyweights as Van Morrison, Gerogie Fame and even Paul McCartney.

But an appearance on Parkinson in 1981 opened up a doorway to the world of alternative comedy, and a single spot at the Comedy Club later Okin was on his way.

Trawling his act across the globe, including literally hundreds of appearances at the Edinburgh Festival, Okin has deftly walked the tightrope between music and comedy, satisfying both audiences without alienating the other, and Wimbledon fans should grab this chance to see a true master craftsman in action.
