Fountain Gallery artist Beverley Waller is showing her latest selection of seascape paintings, inspired by her native Scotland, in a new exhibition at the East Molesey venue this month and she is encouraging visitors to get hands on with her work.

The artworks in the Colour and Light exhibition were inspired by Waller’s regular trips to the Hebrides and the Scottish coast to the north of Aberdeen.

Waller, a full-time artist and mother of two aims to reflect the various textures, colours and landscapes of the Scottish coastline by incorporating sand, shingle, seaweed and fragments of driftwood into her bright and bold paintings.

She says: “I did my degree in sculpture before returning to painting and although I love colour, I love texture as well.

“Being a frugal Scot I like to bring back things from the beach, such as the shingle sand, and incorporate them into my paint. I don’t want to use anything that would be recognisable, I just want to give the paintings that texture.

“I have two children and as they’ve been growing up my work has had to be robust to survive them. People often say you musn’t touch artworks but visitors are more than welcome to touch my paintings.“ Waller, a Whitton resident, has been a member of the artists co-operative at the Fountain Gallery for two years, and has recently set up a home studio.

She adds: “I have in the past done some work as a graphic designer but the painting is going really well for me at the moment. I have got an exhibition in the Highlands coming up and I will be going to the Fulham Palace art fair with the other Fountain artists - there is lots going on and things are going from strength to strength.”

Colour and Light runs from September 14 to 26 at The Fountain Gallery and admission is free. For more information, visit fountaingallery.co.uk
