It seems a long time since we had our last Marvel ‘Fix’ with the brilliant follow up sequel to Guardians of the Galaxy way back in April this year.
Guardians of the Galaxy 2 didn’t disappoint and continued the similar format with clever writing, mixing pathos and humour with a backdrop of beautifully choreographed action scenes with a great 70’s awesome mix soundtrack.
The next major Superhero movie will be Thor: Ragnarok released in UK on October 27, 2017. This is being directed by New Zealand actor / director Taika Waititi who brought us the hilarious Vampire Spoof, What We Do in the Shadows (2014) and the delightful comedy Hunt for the Wilderpeople (2016) which was the sleeper film of that year.
A great cast has been assembled with Chris Hemsworth back as Thor, Tom Hiddleston as the ‘black sheep’ brother Loki, Anthony Hopkins as Odin, Mark Ruffalo – Dr. Bruce Banner / Hulk, Idris Elba as Heimdall.
This time we have some new characters Cate Blanchett as Hela, Jeff Goldblum as Grandmaster, Karl Urban as Skurge. There is also an appearance by the latest new member of the Avengers team Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Stephen Strange.
Synopsis:
Thor (Chris Hemsworth) is imprisoned on the other side of the universe without his almighty hammer and finds himself in a race against time to get back to Asgard to stop Ragnarok, the destruction of his home world and the end of Asgardian civilization at the hands of an all-powerful new threat, the ruthless Hela (Cate Blanchett).
First he must survive a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against his former ally and fellow Avenger, The Hulk! AKA Bruce Banner.
Thor: Ragnarok Trailer
Following Thor: Ragnarok the next Marvel spin off will be The Black Panther with Chadwick Boseman as the agile feline Avenger. However, this is not due out until February 12, 2018.
Then come April, 27, 2018 we have the much-awaited next Avengers movie, Infinity Wars.
Personally, I’m more excited about the sequel to Ant Man (2013) that starred Paul Rudd as Scott Lang, the unlikely super insect Ant-Man. This wasn’t so well received by some critics and I’m not sure why?
It had a good witty script and allowed Rudd to let his comedic personality to come out in his character.
The sequel will be called Ant-Man and the Wasp due out in the UK on August 3, 2018.
Teaser Trailer
This reunites Evangeline Lilly as Hope van Dyne AKA The Wasp and Michael Douglas is also back as her Father Dr. Hank Pym but we also have Michelle Pfeiffer as Hope’s Mother Janet van Dyne.
Laurence Fishburne will also be joining the cast as Dr. Bill Foster / Goliath.
Synopsis:
In the aftermath of “Captain America: Civil War”, Scott Lang (Rudd) grapples with the consequences of his choices as both a Super Hero and a father. As he struggles to rebalance his home life with his responsibilities as Ant-Man, he’s confronted by Hope van Dyne (Lilly) and Dr. Hank Pym (Douglas) with an urgent new mission. Scott must once again put on the suit and learn to fight alongside The Wasp as the team works together to uncover secrets from their past.
Much to look forward to!
