Spider-Man: Far from Home (12A)
As far as Superheroes go, I think its fair to say that deep down everybody loves Spider-Man. Maybe its because he is still a teenager…not quite a grown-up and is still trying to live up to his Uncle Ben’s wise words “With great power comes great responsibility.”
We want him to rise up and do well and protect the innocent plus, he can really kick-ass!
However, he can be quite vulnerable and oh! how we shed tears at the end of Infinity War as a frightened Peter (Tom Holland)cried out to Tony Stark “I don’t want to die…” as his body turned to ashes blowing in the wind.
Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal) and Spider-Man (Tom Holland)
Thank God for ‘End Game’ when Iron Man (Tony Stark) sacrificed himself to destroy Thanos.
Now without Tony Stark and Iron Man to look after the World. The World is looking to Spider-Man to step on up.
The problem is that Peter, needs a vacation as they like to say over the pond!
Peter is at that stage when his mind is full of hormones and right now he is looking forward to the school trip to Europe, especially as his love MJ (Zendaya) is also on the trip.
Peter has been rehearsing his romantic holiday plans culminating with him showing his affections to MJ at the top of the Eiffel Tower.
Peter and Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson)
Unfortunately the path of true love is shattered by Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), who has been trying to reach Peter by his cell phone (I hate to call it that!) and is furious that Spider-Man is snubbing him.
There is something big going down and Spider-Man is needed to literally save the World. Fury catches up with Peter in Prague along with his Shield side-kick Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders) and they introduce Peter to a new Super Hero Quentin Beck, (Jake Gyllenhaal) from another dimension on Earth.
Spider-Man and Beck team up to take on these elemental creatures created in Multiverses and taking the element form of water and fire.
The fight scenes throughout the film are spectacular and some of Europe’s historical treasured sites take a bashing and London also falls foul of destruction.
The School kids give Beck a Nickname of Mysterio (as the public don’t know where he came from) and the name sticks!
Much of the film is based around the school trip and Peter’s rag tag friends and of course this includes his best Pal and confidant Ned (Jacob Batalon) who shares the knowledge of Peters secret identity.
As usual Marvel writers put in plenty of gags and humorous lines. Happy Hogan (Jon Favreau) is back as a kind of Guardian for Peter and there is fun with Happy and Peter’s Aunt May (Marisa Tomei) trying to keep their relationship a secret as well.
Spider-Man's New cool suit
A nice turn from Jake Gyllenhaal as Mysterio. I never figured him as the Superhero type. Then again, who would have thought Paul Rudd could pull off Superherodom (is that a word?).
It’s a shame that Nick Fury is kind of under used in the film but the revelation is how Tom Holland has now totally fallen into the character of Spider-Man, who in my opinion is the best Spider-Man by far.
Spidy in action
This movie will take you unawares and the set pieces are technically more superior from what we usually expect. The special effects just keep getting better and better. Even the basic scenes of Spider-Man shooting through the air with the aid of his web-slinger’s looks so real!
Just a heads-up…you need to stay for both end credit sequences.
Very entertaining.
