One of Britain's best kept secrets will be celebrating 50 years of Motown Records at Croydon Clocktower tomorrow.
Soul diva Diane Shaw will be bringing classics by Gladys Knight, Diana Ross, Tammi Terrell, The Supremes, The Vandellas and The Four Tops to life in this tribute to the legends of soul.
Having spent the past decade performing her well-known Motown show at glitzy venues all over Europe, Shaw has now turned her attentions to her musical roots and the songs she grew up with in the 1960s and 70s soul scene.
She has been busy re-recording and re-making a host of Motown, Northern and Modern Soul classics, that inspired her to become a professional singer in the first place, a career that has seen her perform at anything from weddings to outdoor festivals and soul all-nighters.
Among her repertoire you can expect to hear the dynamic and emotive ballads of the likes of Knight, Aretha Franklin and Dorothy Moore intertwined with Northern classics from such artists as Martha Reeves, Terrell, The Elgins and The Velvelettes.
Diane Shaw, Croydon Clocktower, Katharine Street, October 2, 8pm, £10. Call 020 8253 1030 or visit croydonclocktower.org.uk.
