Listening to Stephanie Lambring's songs you could well think she is a very miserable person, but far from it.

The American, who comes to The Bedford on Easter Monday, specialises in sad songs with a lot of talk about break-ups, but outside of the recording studio she is one of the bubbliest and happiest 23-year-olds you could ever meet.

"I'm a very happy person really," she says.

"I am always laughing and joking all the time and then I chuck out these really sad songs.

"It's kind of strange.

"There are a lot of break up songs, even though I haven't been broken up with that many times.

"There are a couple that are specific to some guys but I feel as a songwriter it's your job to put yourself in someone else's position.

"I have a lot of songs about things that either happened to me or someone I know or could have happened to someone.

"I have always loved sad songs because they really make you feel something.

"I'm a happy person who just likes sad songs."

Lambring, who will be bringing a new five track EP, Trail of Goodbye, with her to sell at the gig, toured the UK last year and was eager to come back despite a fear of flying.

"I'm looking forward to being in England but not the getting there part as I have a little bit of flight anxiety," she says.

"I'm really excited this time because I know what to expect after being there last year and will have my bearings.

"I find the audiences in the UK to be different from those in the US.

"I feel people in the UK have a deeper appreciation for music and it was really cool to play to these types of crowds last year."

While over here, Lambring will be appearing on Bob Harris's BBC Radio Two show after he was quoted last year as saying 'This is one of those…remember the name, Stephanie Lambring.'

"I am so excited to be meeting the man behind the microphone," says Lambring.

"He is quite an icon in the radio industry."
