Two very different shows will be performed back to back on the Abbeyfest stage this weekend.
FlamingoFeather will be putting on the Beekeeper, a one man show revolving around the theme of celibacy, and then Black Dog, a one-woman performance examining the different aspects of depression, at Colour House Theatre on Saturday and Sunday night.
Former Royal Ballet soloist Simon Rice, who performs The Beekeeper, founded the company with Ilana Gorban at the start of 2007 and this will be only the second time the two shows have been performed as a double bill.
"The two shows are very different," says Rice.
"The Beekeeper has celibacy as the central theme and involves a lot of text and a lot of movement.
"There's also dance and animation so it really is a multi-media piece.
"It came out of another performance we did in Ireland last year called Pomegranate and was performed as its own piece for the first time earlier this year.
"It's almost complete and we won't be tweaking that one too much any more.
"Black Dog is a much more recent piece and is performed by Ilana.
"It was made in collaboration with Professor Jane Plant from Imperial College and there's a lot more dance and video in that piece. It's much more visual.
"It's a piece we consider to be more in development that we will continue to work on."
Having had a three-month residency in Ireland, Rice and Gorban decided to base their operation in London and this will be their first time at Abbeyfest.
"We are very much looking forward to it," says Rice.
"We went down last Friday night when they had some very nice jazz on and it was very vibrant and the atmosphere was great."
