Since landing his first television series in the UK in 1963, Des O'Connor has starred in his own mainstream television show for more than 45 years - longer than anyone anywhere in the world.
He is one of Britain's best-loved entertainers and even at the grand old age of 77 he has managed to bring out another new album this year, Inspired.
Co-written by Des and Alan Hawkshaw, who was worked with Elvis and Barbara Streisand in the past, the album features 18 brand new songs and is the 37th offering released by television legend.
Born in the East End of London, O'Connor entered show business after National Service in the RAF, appearing at first in variety shows in theatres throughout the country before getting his break in television.
The Des O'Connor Show ran for five years from 1963 and has been followed up by Des O'Connor Entertains, Des O'Connor Tonight, Take Your Pick, Des O'Connor Beat School, Today with Des and Mel and Countdown.
He began life as a recording star in 1967, with first single Careless Hands being a hit before follow-up I Pretend went to number one in the charts.
Since then his albums have sold more than 16 million copies and he has spent 117 weeks in the top ten charts.
