Fresh from their recent success with their revival of Annie, the Sutton Theatre Company return to the Secombe Theatre this week with their latest opus, Cole Porter’s seafaring classic Anything Goes.
A 1930s romp involving nightclub singers, gangsters and lovestruck stowaways the muscial contains such well-known numbers as ‘I Get A Kick Out Of You’ and, of course, ‘Anything Goes’.
And for Pauline Gibson, who takes on the role of singer Reno Sweeney, the project was an easy choice.
She explains: “It is a great company show and we have such a large chorus it was a perfect fit.
“We have 30 people involved and it is a musical that really suits that.
“We always want to put on the best show that we can, but we also have to make sure it is within our reach.
“There is a lot of singing and a lot of dancing, and a lot of entertainment.”
The show first opened on Broadway back in 1934 and West End versions have seen the likes of Elaine Page and John Barrowman tread the boards.
And Gibson is promising audiences a night to remember.
She adds: “There are a real variety of characters on board and it makes for a great story.
“There is a lot of humour in the script and although people may not know the tale, they will certainly know the songs.
“We have been rehearsing since May for this and have a great set and costumes, so it should be great fun.”
Anything Goes, Secombe Theatre, Sutton, October 20-24, 7.30pm, £11-£13, 0208 770 6990
