Celebrity text scandals may be all the rage in the press at the moment, but Ciara Janson is more than happy for anyone to give her number a buzz.
The former Hollyoaks actress is heading back to her Surrey roots for Popstar: The Musical at the Epsom Playhouse next week.
And a script quirk has left the 22-year-old begging for her inbox to be filled.
Janson explains: “One of the ideas behind the show is that the audience text in who they would like to win.
“I don’t think I will have a chance - not when you have the likes of Antony Costa in the show.
“In fact, I’m absolutely terrified that I am going to get no votes whatsoever.
“But for the Epsom dates I have invited a load of family and friends along, and I will be making sure they vote for me!”
The actress, whose parents are television stars Debbie Arnold and David Janson, attended Danes Hill School and Epsom College.
And it was Hollyoaks that put Janson on the map, with her stint as Nicole Owen between 2004 and 2007 making her a household name among lovers of soap.
Janson continues: “I absolutely loved Hollyoaks.
“It was my first real job on television and I had such a good time.
“I learned so much from just being on the set each day and practising my craft.
“I reckon I learned far more in those years than if I would have gone to drama school and it was a fantastic grounding for the rest of my career.
“Having said all that, there is a real tendency for people to put anyone that appears in Hollyoaks in a bracket and I really did not want that to happen.
“That is why as soon as I left I was looking for as much varied work as I could.”
That path has taken in voiceover work, stage shows, radio productions and now Popstar: The Musical, a behind the scenes expose of reality shows that will see Janson warm up her vocal chords alongside the likes of Costa and John Altman.
And the actress admits the thought of belting out hits such as I Will Survive fills her with dread.
Janson reveals: “To say I am nervous is an understatement.
“I have never sang properly before so this is a real challenge.
“But the character is so good and so different to anything I have done before I could not turn it down.
“It is a real opportunity for me and I am determined to enjoy it.”
