Prepare for sporting pantomime as a wrestling promoter modestly puts on what he calls “the greatest show on earth”.
Sanjay Bagga works his charges hard, taking them on tours across the UK and is looking forward to setting them loose to do combat in Croydon.
He says: “We make no bones about the fact that wrestling is a show. I like to call it sporting pantomime. It’s genuinely athletic and gruelling for our performers and there are sometimes real injuries, but ultimately we’re there to entertain the audience.”
The show features top stars from the LDN wrestling roster and will continue the on running saga between bitter British Heavyweight rivals Hakan and Travis.
Croydon was the location of the pair’s last clash in May and the bout ended in high controversy as Hakan defeated former champ Alan Lee Travis, only for Travis to attack the Peckham Playboy, claiming the result was unlawful.
Their enmity will be settled this time in a brutal cage fight. Hakan says: “I’m wrestling in the most dangerous match in LDN history in my first ever cage match.
“Travis has three cage matches under his belt so has a lot of experience in them, but with the fans on my side and intense training I’m hoping to retain my title.”
The way to win the match is by pin fall or by escaping the steel cage. Making up the remaining programme will be a host of competitors Richard Parliament, a wrestling politician who advocates seven day a week school terms, Rocker Richards and tag team the Executives, Richard Goldman and Robert Rothstein.
LDN Wrestling, Fairfield Halls, July 15, 2.30pm, tickets £10, call 020 8688 9291.
