William Edmund Simms Known as ''Eddie'' 10th September 1935 to 19th December 2018. Died December 19th at his home in Esher, Surrey. Aged 82 years old. Born 10th of September 1935 in Tolworth, Surrey, Son of the late John and Mary Simms. Following World War II, Eddie served his National Service from 1954 in Berlin for two years. On New Years Eve 1959, he met the lovely Shirley Ann Cudmore and they were married in September 1963. They were married for 38 years until Shirley's death in July 2001. The Simms first settled in Weybridge, but then moved to Surbiton where they remained for much of their married life. Eddie joined Lloyd's of London as a Box Clerk in 1956. Through his hard work, dedication and sharp mind, he rose through the ranks and succeeded as the named underwriter at the Ariel Syndicate in 1980, a position he held until his retirement in 1989. At the peak of his career he was recognised as one of the leading aviation insurance underwriters in the World, travelling extensively to meet clients and brokers in many different countries. After his retirement, Shirley and Eddie spent their time entertaining, travelling, mostly to their apartment in La Manga, Spain and focusing on their adored children, Paul, Jane and Rebecca. Eventually after Shirley's death, Eddie focused on his children and his 9 beautiful grandchildren. He is survived by his 3 children, Paul of Darien CT USA (Tracy), Jane of Upper Boddington, Northamptonshire (Duncan) and Rebecca of Esher Surrey (Marcus). He is also survived by his sister, Patricia Simms of Tolworth Surrey. Eddie's memorial service will be held on February 1st, The Church of the Holy Name in Esher Surrey at 11am. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to The Princess Alice Hospice in Esher Surrey.
