Crystal Palace boss Peter Taylor has asked not to manage the England U21s in their game against Holland in two weeks time in order to concentrate on the current crisis at Selhurst Park.

The Eagles have lost four out of the last five games, which has seen the club fall to 18th place in the Championship table - just six points above the relegation zone.

Taylor said it would not be right to take time off from the club in its current predicament.

"I have asked not to do the next game because I can't afford to be away from here," said Taylor.

"I think it would be wrong for me to be away and I don't won't to be away from here at the moment.

"I spoke to Trevor Brooking and they (the Football Association) understand that I would not have felt right being away in Holland with the situation here.

"I would have only missed one day's training but it would not have been right or fair to Simon Jordan or Crystal Palace."

However Taylor could be back in charge of the U21s in a friendly game against Spain in February, but further talks will be undertaken nearer the time in order for that to be confirmed.

The Palace boss recently steered the U21s to the European Championships Finals which take place next summer.
