Staines Town, without a game on Saturday due to their earlier elimination from the FA Trophy, are hoping to at last find some consistency after getting back to winning form with a 3-1 victory at home over Carshalton Athletic last weekend.

Manager Steve Cordery, whose next chance to experiment comes on Tuesday (7.45pm) when Staines host Heybridge Swifts in the Westview Cup fourth round, has chopped and changed the side in his quest to improve it and overcome injury problems.

The latest in a series of signings is Sutton United midfielder Neil Lampton.

"We have had horrific injuries in the past two seasons, and now I am hoping to settle things down," Cordery said.

"I am reasonably happy with what I have got, but I want to look at some of the youngsters at the club."

The victory over Carshalton was only the Swans' fourth in 12 Ryman League Premier Division games, and they are still 14th in the table.

Cordery recalled Dean Thomas and the Newton brothers, Howard and Jake, in place of Gareth Risbridger, Marien Ifura and the injured Jon McDonald.

He also gave Lampton his debut as a late substitute.

Ali Chaaban chimed in with two vital goals and was denied a hat-trick only by a fine save from former Staines keeper Paul Seuke. Mark Nwokeji scored the Swans' other goal.

The Robins' former Staines academy player Luke Fontana was having a quiet and was replaced by Sean Rivers, who reduced the arrears by stabbing home from close range after Danny Boxall's free-kick was helped on by Craig Dundas.

Staines almost restored their three-goal lead when Nwokeji rattled the woodwork.

Staines: Allaway, Smith, Thomas, Sargent, Charles, Scarlett (capt), K Warner, H Newton (Lampton, 82mins), J Newton, Nwokeji, Chaaban. Subs unused: Maskell, J Kiffin, Robinson, Courtnage.

Staines youth team, made up of Kingston College academy players, had a 4-0 lead wiped out at Harrow Borough Youths but finally won 5-4 in the FA Youth Cup third qualifying round.

Goals by Nick White, Dominic Dwyer (two) and James McShane in the first 46 minutes seemed to put Staines in control, but Harrow were level after 74 minutes.

Dwyer then completed his hat-trick to put Staines through.

There were some bad tempered reactions by a couple of the home players after the final whistle, but Staines did not get involved.

In the first round proper Staines will entertain Woking, who defeated them in the SYL play-off final last term, on Thursday November 9.
