Recently we received a parking ticket while our car was parked in a disabled bay outside our home. The reason given is that I did not display my blue badge.
We do not display my blue badge at night because of the market that there is for stolen ones.
A number of cars have been vandalised or broken into. We had some expensive car repairs last year, due to vandalism.
We currently have a petrol cap that we cannot make secure because it has been vandalised and we have problems with opening the boot because someone has tried to break in.
Until the authorities sort out the security of blue badges, also a system of relating a disabled parking bay to the car that it is provided for, my advice to disabled people is do not have a bay provided outside your home.
If you do not display your badge you are liable for a parking fine. If you do display it you are likely to have a repair bill for a break in and you are still liable for a parking fine because your badge has been stolen and you cannot display it.
We have challenged the issuing of the parking ticket, also we have requested the removal of the parking bay. Of course we have had no response. Letters take longer to produce than parking tickets do.
