Dulwich Hamlet manager Wayne Burnett is banking on a boost to attendances if he can keep his side's good run going.

Saturday's hard-fought 3-2 victory at Maidstone United pushed Dulwich back up to third place in Ryman League Division One South, just two points behind top two Fleet Town and Dartford.

With average home attendances creeping towards the 300 mark, Burnett believes more of the same on the pitch should soon translate into bigger gates.

"I am hoping that if we are still up there come Christmas time we could be pushing for gates of 400 or 500," said Burnett.

"This club has a great tradition so I don't see why we can't pull in the fans, as long as we are playing good football and getting the results.

"Bromley are the prime example. It wasn't long ago that we were playing them in this division.

"Now they are top of the Ryman Premier Division and getting attendances of 600, 700 even 800 people."

Dulwich have big home games against neighbours Tooting & Mitcham and Dover Athletic at the start of the new year, which could very well attract the bumper crowds Burnett dreams of, if his side are still in the hunt for promotion.

Before then, Dulwich have a host of difficult fixtures that could determine whether or not they can mount a serious title charge.

While they don't have a game on Saturday due to their early exit from the FA Trophy, Dulwich can look forward to a tough trip to cup heroes Leatherhead next Tuesday evening.

The Tanners will be on a high after booking a place in the first round of the FA Cup with a 2-1 win at AFC Sudbury on Saturday. They are also still competing in the FA Trophy and face a trip to Team Bath on Saturday.

"I'm sure it will be a very difficult game, but I'm hoping that Leatherhead's back log of fixtures will start to catch up with them by the time we play," said Burnett.

"It's hard to say whether or not the comparative lack of games will help or hinder us, but all my lads are loving their football at the moment and confidence is high."

New striker Shawn Beveney sealed the 3-2 win against Maidstone, scoring his first goal in only his second game for Dulwich.

Centre half Justin Roberts went one better, opening the scoring 16 minutes into his debut. Winger Phil Williams scored the second just before half-time, before Beveney notched on 53 minutes.
