I do not agree with using sandwiches for lunch at St Helier and Epsom hospitals for several reasons. This would replace the usual hot lunch that was provided. I realise this has to be cost effective, but it will throw up a lot of problems. Different fillings will have to be offered to cater for those people who cannot eat certain foods.
A more nutritious supplement would be a bowl of hot soup and a slice of bread. Dried soups can be purchased in large quantities, and would be cheaper than supplying bread and different fillings. It would also be easier for people to digest. It could also encourage relatives to bring in food.
