A jury has returned a manslaughter verdict on a man who killed a father-of-two with a punch at Kempton Park racecourse.

Simon Wootten, 34, collapsed after a fatal punch to the neck from David Nobes, following an argument at a Christmas market hot dog van at the Sunbury racecourse on December 22, 2005.

Mr Wootten was treated at the scene by the Surrey Ambulance Service, but was certified dead at Ashford Hospital shortly afterwards. The court heard that Mr Wootten received a blow to the neck, causing one of his arteries to haemorrhage. Mr Wootten, who ran a bouncy castle business, is survived by his partner and two children.

Construction manager,Nobes, 31, from Feltham, west London, was convicted of manslaughter at Kingston Crown Court on Thursday.. He is due to reappear at Kingston Crown Court for sentencing on Thursday, November 16.

DCI Ray Marley, who led the investigation, said: "This was a tragic incident that resulted in the death of a young man just before Christmas.

"The market is a popular attraction at that time of year, which draws up to 4,000 visitors in the grounds of the racecourse."
