We, the Furzedown community, signed a petition to save our sub-post offices which were part of the four million signatures taken to the Prime Minister last week.
Our local MP for Tooting, Sadiq Khan, presented the Furzedown petition to John Hutton MP of the DWP Department for Work and Pensions and within days the Trade and Industry Secretary Alistair Darling was in the Daily Mail, October 17, 2006, proposing huge closures.
The post offices belong to us, the people, from 1945/8 when a Labour government nationalised the service with our money.
