Croydon fighter Wayne Alexander's dream of a WBO world title bout could become reality if he comes through a planned fight next month unscathed.

The WBU light-middleweight title holder spoke to the Croydon Guardian from his training camp in Belfast where he has been preparing for his December fight.

According to his promoter Frank Warren, will lead to a WBO title bout against Ukranian European champion Sergei Dzindziruk in Germany.

Alexander has not fought since defeating Thomas McDonagh in March and has been hoping to land an opportunity to fight for a major belt before he retires.

This could finally happen if he comes through next month's test against a so far unnamed opponent.

Alexander said: "It's a dream come true. It gives me the opportunity to be put in the same league as likes of Oscar De La Hoya and Cory Spinks and it will give me recogntion in America which could lead to some big money fights."

The possible fight will be the sternest test of Alexander's 11-year career and the first time he has fought on foreign soil.

The unbeaten Dzindziruk has 12 wins to his name, nine by knock-out, and will be fighting on his own teritory, as he is based in Germany. Alexander is well aware of the tough task awaiting him.

"I will have to be in the best condition ever to win this fight," said Alexander.

"It will be my biggest test yet. To win would be the high point of my career."

Alexander has been in Belfast for three months preparing for the fight and is determined to put in a good performance before the possible meeting with Dzindziruk.

He has been running 25 miles a week and an increasing amount of pad work, before the training intensifies during the lead up to the fight.

Despite not knowing the identity of the fighter he will be up against, Alexander will be preparing just as throughly.

"I know I can beat anybody if I'm in the best possible shape so it does not bother me. I will just prepare in the usual way and make sure when I enter the ring I get in the positions to knock him out.

"I've got nothing to prove, I just want to put on a good perfromance and be ready for Dzindziruk."
