A Lambeth Youth Council member will find out tonight if he has won a prestigious Spirit of London Award.

Jeremiah Emmanuel, 13, who goes to Archbishop Tenison's School in Kennington is nominated in the Young Hero award category.

Jeremiah will find out if he has won at the O2 in Greenwich where pop stars Labrinth, Chase & Status and Maverick Sabre will perform during the ceremony.

Jeremiah said: “It was great just to be nominated and going to the awards will be amazing. I’ve been involved in a lot of different projects in the last year over the last few years.

“I do it because I want to make a difference to the lives of young people in Lambeth. So getting nominated and getting the chance to see all those performers live is a brilliant.”

Jeremiah was elected as a deputy member of the UK Youth Parliament in 2011 and is currently Lambeth’s Deputy Youth Mayor. He is also involved in helping the council shape the new Young Lambeth Co-operative, including offering his ideas on branding and the constitution of the new organisation The prestigious Spirit of London Awards were launched by the Damilola Taylor Trust in 2009 in honour of Damilola and all the other young people who have lost their lives to youth violence on streets of London.

The awards aim to demonstrate to young people just how much their positive endeavours matter and how much they are valued. Cllr Rachel Heywood, Cabinet member for Children & Families, said: “I’m really proud of Jeremiah for getting this nomination and for all his hard work on behalf of young people in Lambeth.

“I’ll have my fingers crossed for him on Monday night because if he is chosen as the award winner it would be a real boost for him and for the rest of the Lambeth Youth Council.”

In an arrangement with UK Athletics and Team GB London 2012 all the awards on the night will be presented by medalists from the Olympic and Paralympic squads.
