Wimbledon’s hanky-waving dancers provided a lift to a Christmas market.
Greensleeves morris men, based in Haydons Road, were among the attractions at Morden Hall Park – run by the National Trust – on which the market is held on the first two Sundays of December.
The attractions included Santa and his elves in his grotto, food and craft stalls, the Colliers Wood Ukelele Orchestra and animals from Deen City Farm in Merton Abbey Mills.
The National Trust’s Susie Williamson said: “It has been really successful and well attended. This is
our last event before Christmas.”
Greensleeves, founded in 1926, is London’s longest running morris-dancing club and has been based in Wimbledon for the past 30 years.
On Boxing Day, the group will perform a traditional Mummers play at noon, outside the Rose and Crown pub in Wimbledon Village’s High Street.
Then at 1.15pm they will dance and perform their Mummers play outside the Hand in Hand and Crooked Billet pubs, near Wimbledon Common.
