Council staff have been praised for their generosity after donating trolley-loads of food to the Croydon Food Network.

More than 90 families and 160 homeless people were give food over the Christmas period.

Staff at Taberner House donated more than £12,000 worth of food in their Fill the Trolley Competition where each floor filled a supermarket trolley with food.

They also ensured that more than 160 homeless people were fed by Nightwatch, a homeless charity.

Councillor Mike Fisher, leader of the council, said: “This has been a tremendous effort by staff who are only too aware that there are some in our borough who are unable to afford the type of festive food spread that others of us might take for granted.

“I’d like to offer my thanks for this fantastic show of warmth and generosity that I’m sure helped to make Christmas that little bit more special for many.”
