When so much money is being spent on construction for the 2012 Olympics, it really makes little sense suggesting that sports and social facilities in Sutton are under the threat of closure.

The Olympics are about the general health of everybody in every nation, which places like Westcroft certainly promote.

The time has come for Sutton Council to hold a number of local consultations for the public to have facts and an overview of the situation.

If our modest hard-working staff in the present centres cannot plan with confidence for the future, then what will happen after the Olympics to the new facilities which will face the same worries? Individuals like myself expect to pay for our use of sports/social facilities. We also feel that public funding should contribute in order to keep us out of the need for NHS treatments.

Perhaps eventually, a combined seminar on health and fitness in the community would help us all to get our minds around the problems of finance and resources.

Some of the future health clinics/ hospitals/sports centres might bring together NHS trusts and local authorities plus interested private companies to provide a comprehensive fitness and health service. Now get those local consultations going to maintain confidence in our present centres.
