Epsom District Swimming Club member Matthew Helps has been causing a splash as the captain of the London Regional water polo team.
The 14-year-old, who is one of the youngest players to score in the senior British National Water Polo league, skippered his team to the ASA U15 Inter Regional Water Polo Championship title in Liverpool last weekend.
Helps, who has recently been selected to play for the Great Britain junior squad, led a London team made comprising the brightest talent in the country.
They were in dominant form as they easily won their first qualification matches against Wales (25-1), Scotland (20-2), north-west (12-2) and eastern region (20-3) to earn a place in the final and another match-up against north-west, where Helps’ team swam out 10-3 winners.
