I was appalled to see the news that the Council is considering a planning application for the sale of Brighton Road carpark (Plan to build office on site of car park, Sutton Guardian, February 7).
I work in an office near to this carpark and leave my car there five days a week.
There are so many empty offices that could be converted for Subsea 7 without taking a vital benefit away from the residents of Sutton and the surrounding area.
I hope the planners will seriously consider the detrimental effect caused by selling off this vital facility.
I am sure that there are some Luddites around who believe that office space is more important than car drivers being able to park their car.
If the transport infrastructure was more "joined up" I might seriously consider leaving my car at home but at present in this freezing cold weather I am not prepared to stand on a station waiting for a possibly non-existent train, nor am I prepared to take a bus that either drops me at the bottom of the high street when I work at the top, or the other alternative is a bus that does the scenic route all round the houses before finally arriving in Sutton.
I shall be doing everything I can to oppose this planning application and I hope that everyone else will as well.
