A Residents’ Association campaign to include Epsom Station in Zone 6 was started by Cllr. Derek Phillips who tragically died from cancer in December 2008 at the early age of 43. Since then the Residents’ Association has continued his campaign and I have just sent a letter to the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, pointing out that:
• Both Ewell East and Ewell West stations are within Zone 6 as are Tattenham Corner and Epsom Downs, the latter two stations being further from Central London than Epsom station.
• The continued exclusion of Epsom station is both inequitable and illogical.
• The resulting position on the buses is even more confusing with some routes falling within Zone 6 and others not.
• Whilst all sections of the community would benefit from inclusion, students and young people as well as the elderly are especially affected by the current situation.
I have asked the Mayor of London to act quickly to remove this anomaly and allow Epsom Station to be included within Zone 6. I do hope he listens to this plea.
Yours sincerely
Cllr. Jean Smith
Residents’ Association
Chairman of the Environment Committee
