A business man has been named entrepreneur of the year during a top award ceremony at the House of Commons.

Sutton man Deepak Kuntawala, founder of global trading and finance company DVK, was presented with the award at the Asian Voice Political & Public Life Awards by former Speaker of the House of Commons Betty Boothroyd earlier this month.

Mr Kuntawala was recognised for founding DVK and then building his business from its base Sandy Lane, Cheam, to the point where it has a presence across the world including in China, Dubai and Russia.

He said: "I am delighted to have been awarded the entrepreneur of the year. The awards is a shining beacon of recognition for the enterprising, innovative and successful Asian community across the world. Being voted for by my peers for this accolade is such an honour. I am truly humbled.

"Entrepreneurship starts from the street and it’s all about being creative and having the right mindset."

MP Keith Vaz, chairman of the home affairs committee, was at the ceremony. He said: "Deepak Kuntawala is a very worthy winner who demonstrated his ability to transform entrepreneurship in Britain and internationally. I think he has done a great job."

Mr Kuntawala recently launched a branches in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia where a member of the royal family has joined the board.
