Murder detectives investigating the disappearance and possible murder of Lee Boxell received more than 40 calls as a result of last night's Crimewatch appeal.

The show last night prompted calls from members of the public with information about the 15-year-old's connection with a youth club called the Shed at St Dunstan's Church, Cheam.

There have been no sightings of Lee Boxell since 2.20pm on Saturday September 10, 1988, making it one of the UK's longest running missing person cases.

DI John McQuade, who is leading the operation said he is happy with the response.

He said: "We received a lot of calls following last night's Crimewatch appeal both to the show and to the incident room.

"We have several new witnesses who went to the Shed who have given us some interesting information about a named person of interest to us.

"We would still like to speak to anyone who went to the Shed or has information about Lee's whereabouts on that day so we can give Christine and Peter Boxell some answers."

On the show, a reconstruction was aired retracing what police believe to be Lee's last movements.

Rather than going to watch football in Crystal Palace as police initially thought, they now think he walked to Cheam, and could have attended the Shed, where youngsters used to drink and smoke.

Last September police dug up parts of St Dunstan's Church in Cheam looking for clues as to what happened to him.

Tomorrow (Saturday, February 16) would be Lee's 40th birthday.
